The Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland was summoned “urgently” by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. This summons comes in the wake of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s speech at the UN, which has caused offense to Poland.

Poland summoned the Ambassador of Ukraine “urgently” on Wednesday to protest against the statements made by President Volodymyr Zelensky at the UN, as announced by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The move was in response to the remarks made by Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday, in which he stated that “some countries pretend solidarity (toward Ukraine) while indirectly supporting Russia.”

The Polish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, who received the Ukrainian diplomat, denounced this “false thesis regarding Poland and particularly unjustified concerning Poland, which has supported Ukraine from the early days of the war,” according to the ministry’s statement.

Kiev’s Response to Warsaw Ukrainian diplomacy called on Poland on Wednesday to “set aside emotions” and adopt a “constructive” approach in the dispute over Ukrainian grain exports that has arisen between the two otherwise allied neighbors in the war against Russia. “We call on our Polish friends to set aside emotions,” wrote the spokesperson for Ukrainian diplomacy, Oleg Nikolenko, on Facebook, following Warsaw’s announcement of the summoning of the Ukrainian Ambassador.
