In a press conference with Olympique de Marseille this Thursday, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang discussed his challenging last season at Chelsea.

After officially joining Olympique de Marseille a few weeks ago, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was presented to the press this Thursday, alongside another summer signing Geoffrey Kondogbia, the director of football Javier Ribalta, and the club’s president Pablo Longoria. Of course, questions arose about his integration, but also about his last season at Chelsea.

After a promising spell at FC Barcelona, he joined the Blues last year, but the adventure turned sour after the departure of Thomas Tuchel, who advocated for his signing. PEA recounted his difficult period.

“It was a rather difficult year, first in my personal life. When you have a parent who spent a year in the hospital, and then things didn’t go well at Chelsea. I believe it’s important to stay positive. He is in good health, that’s the most important thing. He was there yesterday, it touched me. Physically, I still have some time ahead of me because I haven’t played much. I’m giving it my all, I know it will come,” he began explaining, as reported by Footmercato.

He continued: “I think there’s a difference between arriving at Barcelona and being welcomed as I was. Chelsea was different. It was Tuchel who brought me in, and he was fired a week later. There were other issues that are not in my control, and then I didn’t play much.” On another note, throughout this press conference, the recurring theme was his speed, considering his advanced age (34 years).

“I was sure I would get that question. To reassure you, I feel good above all. Fun fact, I have the speed record from last year at Chelsea, 36 kilometers per hour, so I’m still fast at that level,” he explained with a laugh. One thing is certain, Auba is ready and determined.
