After Leandro Paredes, another player from PSG will be playing for AS Roma next season. It’s Renato Sanches who has joined the club of the Giallorossi on a loan with an option to buy. The Parisians officially announced the news on their website this Wednesday.
“Renato Sanches leaves Paris Saint-Germain to join AS Roma in Serie A. The Portuguese midfielder is loaned for a season with an option to buy,” the statement from the Parisian club reads. According to information from Footmercato, Renato Sanches will automatically become a permanent player for AS Roma if he plays 30 matches under the orders of José Mourinho this season.
Trained at Benfica Lisbon, Renato Sanches made his debut with the first team of the club in the 2015/2016 season and contributed to winning the championship and the League Cup. In the summer of 2016, he was transferred to Bayern Munich, where he played 53 matches and won nine titles. During his stay in Germany, he was also loaned to Swansea City in the Premier League for the 2017-2018 season.
Subsequently, Renato Sanches joined LOSC Lille in August 2019, accumulating 90 matches, six goals, and ten assists in three seasons, winning the French championship in 2021 and the Trophée des Champions in 2021. During the 2022/2023 season, as the number 18 player for Paris Saint-Germain, he played 27 matches and scored two goals.
Originally from Lisbon, Renato Sanches was called up for the first time to the Portuguese national team in March 2016, at the age of 18, and was selected by Fernando Santos to participate in Euro 2016. He scored a crucial goal in the quarter-finals against Poland, becoming the youngest scorer in the knockout phase of a European Championship, and ultimately won the tournament with Portugal.
