The third-place team of the last Ligue 1 edition announced the news on Tuesday through an official statement on their website. “Olympique de Marseille announces today the signing of Ismaïla Sarr from Watford FC. The winger has committed to the Olympian club after passing his medical examination. OM warmly welcomes Ismaïla Sarr,” stated the Marseille team’s publication.
“Formed at AS Génération Foot in Senegal, Ismaïla Sarr started his career in 2016 at FC Metz. After an impressive first season, the Senegalese forward joined Stade Rennais FC in the summer of 2017, where he played 77 matches, scored 18 goals, and provided 16 assists in two seasons. He won the Coupe de France with the Breton club in 2019. That same year, he decided to settle in the north-west London suburbs at Watford. Under the colors of the Hornets, he scored 34 goals and had 24 assists in 131 matches,” added the OM’s statement.
The player from Saint-Louis has an impressive total of 54 appearances for the Senegalese national team despite his young age (25 years). In 2022, he played a key role in his country’s victory at the Africa Cup of Nations. His versatility as a right winger also allows him to play on the left or as a striker, making him a major asset for his new team.
