After finalizing the departures of several players from its youth academy, Real Madrid has just let go of another talent from Castilla. Indeed, the young midfielder Sergio Arribas is leaving the Merengue club to join Almeria. The news was announced this Wednesday through a message posted by the Madrid club.

“Real Madrid C. F. and U. D. Almería have reached an agreement on the transfer of player Sergio Arribas. (…) Over the past three seasons, he has played for Castilla, where he has scored more than 40 goals and has been the team’s top scorer in the last two seasons. Real Madrid wishes to express its gratitude and affection to Arribas and wishes him, as well as his entire family, good luck in this new stage,” wrote the club led by Florentino Perez.

Almería has invested a significant amount of 8 million euros to acquire the skills of the 21-year-old player. Having already participated in 14 matches with the Real Madrid first team since the 2020-2021 season, this promising talent commits to the Indálicos for a period spanning the next six seasons.

Who is Sergio Arribas? Born in Madrid, Spain, Sergio Arribas began his career at CD Leganés before joining the youth academy of Real Madrid CF in 2012. He quickly made a name for himself among the young talents of the club, notably participating in the UEFA Youth League during the 2019-2020 season. In the quarter-final of this competition against the young Inter Milan team on August 19, 2020, Arribas shone by providing two assists and winning a penalty, contributing to his team’s victory (0-3). This performance was a key factor in his team’s ultimate victory in that competition that season.

Under the guidance of coach Raúl, Arribas was quickly promoted to Real Madrid’s reserve team, Castilla, during the 2020-2021 season. His remarkable performances caught attention and earned him his first call-up to the senior team in September 2020 by coach Zinédine Zidane. He made his professional debut on September 20, 2020, in a Liga match against Real Sociedad, substituting Vinícius Júnior. The match ended in a goalless draw of 0-0. Arribas also had the opportunity to play in the Champions League, making his debut in that competition on December 9, 2020, against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
