The Lion of the Atlas, Romain Saïss, has signed a two-season contract with Al-Sadd in Qatar. The Qatari club announced the news on Monday through a message on their social media platforms.
Romain Saïss leaves the Turkish club Besiktas after an impressive season and a historic performance at the World Cup with the Moroccan national team. The 33-year-old central defender was a crucial pillar for the Lions of the Atlas, leading them to the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament. However, he is now starting a new chapter in his career as he moves to Qatar where he has committed to Al-Sadd.
While there were speculations linking him to Olympique de Marseille, Romain Saïss ultimately made the decision to join Al-Sadd, a well-established club in the Qatar Stars League. Last season, the team achieved an admirable performance, finishing in third place in the championship.
The transfer of Romain Saïss has been officially confirmed for a duration of two seasons, allowing the player to continue showcasing his skills on the football pitches of Qatar. The transfer fee is reported to be around 2.5 million euros. Saïss will now try to assist his new club with his experience as a Moroccan international and his leadership role in defense from his previous teams.
