In a statement released this Wednesday, Manchester City announced the extension of Bernardo Silva’s contract until 2026. He was previously linked with the club until 2025. This marks the end of a saga during which the Portuguese midfielder was rumored to be moving to PSG and also to FC Barcelona.
“Bernardo Silva has signed a new contract with Manchester City, keeping him at the Club until the summer of 2026,” the City statement read. This is excellent news for the Sky Blues and also for the club’s coach, Pep Guardiola. The Spanish manager has consistently opposed the departure of one of his core players.
It was in the summer of 2017 that Bernardo Silva was recruited to Manchester City, making a major contribution to the club’s recent successes. With 308 appearances to date, the talented Portuguese midfielder has secured five Premier League titles, two FA Cup wins, four League Cup trophies, two Community Shields, and this season’s Champions League title.
Overall, he has found the net 55 times in the Sky Blue jersey, including the crucial first two goals in the resounding 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in last season’s Champions League semi-final. With his new one-year extension at the Etihad, Bernardo Silva aspires to further enrich his trophy cabinet by adding more accolades to his already illustrious career.
“I have spent six incredible years at Manchester City, and I am delighted to extend my stay here. Winning the treble last season was extremely special, and it’s exciting to be a part of a team where there is such hunger and passion. Success pushes you to want even more, and this club gives me the opportunity to keep winning. I love the manager, my teammates, and the fans. I hope we can share even more good moments in the years to come,” Bernardo Silva stated after signing his new contract.
