The FC Barcelona has officially announced the signing of Deco, who will take over the role of sporting director of the club for the next three seasons.
Deco is the new sporting director of FC Barcelona. The Portuguese has been appointed this Wednesday, replacing Mateu Alemany, who will leave his position at the end of the summer transfer window. The former attacking midfielder had notably taken the lead in the Arda Güler case before being outmaneuvered by Real Madrid. The Portuguese star has signed a three-year contract, until June 2026, with the Catalan club.
A former player of FC Barcelona between 2004 and 2008, Deco transitioned into an agent at the end of his career. With his new role, he will try to finalize the next targets for the Spanish team. Despite the arrivals of Oriol Romeu, Ilkay Gundogan, and Inigo Martinez, the Culés also hope to secure Joao Cancelo (Manchester City) to strengthen the defensive axis.
“Deco will be in charge of defining the sporting philosophy of FC Barcelona and assembling the team with the coach and staff, and will later become responsible for the sporting direction,” Barcelona stated in a press release.
