After trimming a good part of its squad during this summer transfer window, Chelsea is also securing its young talents. The London club announced on Wednesday the contract extension of Levi Colwill.
The English prodigy has signed a new six-year contract with the London club, with an option for an additional year, totaling seven years in total. “Fresh after signing a long-term contract with Chelsea, Levi Colwill revealed that positive conversations with Mauricio Pochettino influenced him in committing his future to his childhood club.
The Cobham graduate has been with the Blues since the age of nine and, after two extremely promising loan spells over the past two seasons, found himself in the first team for our pre-season tour in the United States,” Chelsea explained in a statement to announce the news.
After thriving brilliantly on a successful loan spell at Brighton, during which he established himself as a key player under the guidance of Roberto De Zerbi, Levi Colwill joined his Chelsea teammates for their pre-season tour, albeit with a slight delay. This tardiness was due to his brilliant contribution to England’s victorious campaign at the Under-21 Euros earlier this summer.
“I remember being in the old dome [at Cobham]. When I first came in as a trialist, I was really nervous at the time. I went to training, really enjoyed it, then had a six-week trial. On my ninth birthday, that’s when I was offered the contract, and I signed it straight away. I never thought I could become what I am today, through all the hard work. There’s no better feeling. So it’s always been an easy decision. I’ve grown up and all I’ve known is Chelsea,” Levi Colwill said on his club’s website after signing his contract.
