“FC Lorient is pleased to announce today the arrival of Aiyegun Tosin (25 years old), forward from FC Zurich, for the next four seasons,” the Merlus’ publication stated.
The Beninese international, who has earned 10 caps and scored 3 goals, joins FC Lorient from Switzerland, specifically FC Zurich. His new club paid €4.5 million to secure his arrival, as reported by Footmercato.
“He will wear the number 27 at FC Lorient,” the club’s statement added. It’s good news for the Beninese player, who will be able to continue his progression in a more prominent championship.
Who is Aiyegun Tosin? Born in Lagos, Nigeria, and holding dual Nigerian-Beninese nationality, Aiyegun Tosin began his professional career in Latvia by joining FK Ventspils, a club twinned with Lorient.
During three full seasons in the Latvian top division, he played 89 matches, scored 35 goals, and provided 20 assists, while also winning the Latvian Cup.
In the summer of 2019, at the age of 25, the striker chose to join FC Zurich. During his four seasons with the Swiss club, he played in over 100 matches. During this period, he stood out by winning the Swiss Championship title in the 2021-2022 season.
Furthermore, he contributed to his club’s participation in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers and the Europa League campaign in the previous season. Aiyegun Tosin earned his first caps for the Benin national team in 2022. To date, he has played 10 matches and scored 3 goals.
