Four years after his high-profile arrival at Arsenal, Nicolas Pépé is leaving the club. The Ivorian forward has joined Trabzonspor in Turkey, signing a one-year contract with an option for a second year.
It has been a disappointing adventure for Nicolas Pépé in London. After impressing at Lille during the 2018-2019 season, the Ivorian striker failed to live up to expectations during his four years with the Gunners. Injuries and unsuccessful loan spells have led to his departure from the Premier League side.
Having been on the transfer market this summer (like the previous three years), the 28-year-old player has finally found a new club… in Turkey. Trabzonspor announced on Thursday evening that they have signed the Mantes-la-Jolie native, who will play for the current 7th placed team in the Süper Lig for one season, with an additional year as an option.
As for the transfer fee, the situation remains somewhat unclear at the moment. According to RMC Sport, Arsenal demanded a fee ranging from 4 to 5 million euros to allow their player to leave the club, as he only had one year left on his contract.
On the other hand, Turkish sources suggest the possibility of a contract termination between Nicolas Pépé and the London club, which would pave the way for a free transfer to Trabzonspor. Regardless, it is indeed in Turkey that he will continue his career, hoping to revive his professional trajectory.
