In a message posted on its social media platforms this Tuesday evening, Al Nassr announced the arrival of Portuguese midfielder Otavio from Porto. The Portuguese international is thus joining his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo at the Saudi club.
In a sensational announcement, the Saudi football club Al Nassr confirmed the arrival of 28-year-old talented midfielder Otavio from FC Porto. Coming off an exceptional season on a personal level, with 5 goals and 7 assists in just 27 appearances for FC Porto, Otavio had become a central pillar of the team.
However, despite his impressive performances, the midfielder made the bold decision to leave the Portuguese club, with which he was under contract until 2025. This decision took everyone by surprise, especially since he had spent seven seasons with the Portuguese club. Otavio’s choice to join Al Nassr, an emerging club in the Saudi football scene, was largely influenced by the prospect of playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
The renowned Portuguese striker is said to have personally contacted the former FC Porto player to convince him to join him in Saudi Arabia. Although the financial details of the transfer have not been disclosed, Portuguese sources indicate that Otavio’s release clause in his contract was set at 60 million euros. Therefore, the transfer likely involved a substantial amount.
Al Nassr is thus continuing its impressive summer transfer window. During this transfer window, the Saudi club has already welcomed stars such as Sadio Mane, Alex Telles, Seko Fofana, and Brozovic. An impressive squad poised to compete for the title in the Saudi Pro League this season. However, Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammates have not started the championship ideally with two defeats in two matches.
