Suspended from all European competitions for the next season, Osasuna had its sanction imposed by UEFA overturned by the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) this Tuesday. The Spanish club will, therefore, compete in the Conference League in the upcoming season.
Osasuna, the Spanish club, had been disqualified from European Cups for the next season due to a match-fixing case in La Liga dating back to 2013-2014. Its exclusion from the next edition of the Conference League was even confirmed by UEFA’s appeal committee earlier this month. In response to the case, the Court of Arbitration for Sport rendered its verdict this Tuesday. The TAS has decided that the Pamplona-based club will indeed be allowed to participate in the 2023-2024 season of the Conference League.
This news brought joy to the club, which expressed its satisfaction in a lengthy statement: “Club Atlético Osasuna will play in the 2023/24 Conference League, following the conclusion of the procedure before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) through the ‘Consent Award.’ Based on the new evidence provided by the club to defend its participation in the competition, UEFA has determined that Osasuna was a victim of events that occurred almost a decade ago and appreciated the initiative undertaken by the institution to clarify them. Therefore, UEFA considers Osasuna eligible to participate in this edition of the European competition.”
After fighting fiercely for weeks to be able to compete in the Conference League, there is no doubt that the Spaniards will now be eager to make a strong performance in the competition in the next season.
