Norway has formalized its decision to supply F-16 fighters to Ukraine, thus becoming the third country to commit to this course of action. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store announced this initiative during a surprise visit to Kyiv on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day.
Norway has committed to providing F-16 fighter aircraft to Ukraine, confirmed Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store in a statement. This announcement comes as the prime minister is on a surprise visit to Kyiv, celebrating Ukraine’s Independence Day. While precise details regarding the number and delivery schedule of the aircraft have not been immediately disclosed, the prime minister confirmed that more comprehensive information would be provided later.
According to Norwegian media sources, the number of F-16 aircraft supplied to Ukraine is expected to range between 5 and 10 units, likely favoring the lower end of this range. With this decision, Norway joins Denmark and the Netherlands as the third country to support Ukraine by providing F-16s to enhance its defense capabilities.
In addition to the fighter jets, Norway has also announced its intention to supply IRIS-T anti-aircraft missiles and demining equipment. Furthermore, a financial aid of 1.5 billion Norwegian crowns (approximately 130 million euros) has been allocated to support Ukraine’s purchase of gas and electricity during the winter period.
