Franco-Congolese singer Fally Ipupa canceled his participation in the Nights of Francophonie due to intense tensions with his fellow Congolese artist Ferre Gola.

We now have some insight into the reasons behind Fally Ipupa’s cancellation of his performance at the Nights of Francophonie this week in Kinshasa. According to Mbote, this cancellation is a result of intense tensions with his compatriot Ferre Gola.

As per the initial schedule, Fally Ipupa performed at the opening ceremony of the Games on July 28, 2023, and was also scheduled to perform at the closing of the Nights of Francophonie on August 6. On the other hand, Ferre Gola was scheduled to perform on August 4.

Fally Ipupa avoids a leadership clash “But upon learning of Fally Ipupa’s presence at the events, Ferre Gola canceled his own performance. For several days, his team made efforts to place their artist at the closing ceremony of the Games, with the aim of confronting or sidelining Fally Ipupa,” revealed Mbote.

The media outlet reported that Ferre Gola decided to return the $30,000 fee he had already received for his initial performance on the condition that he would perform for free at the closing ceremony, which was planned to be held in the Congress Hall accommodating 750 people. To avoid any confrontation, Fally Ipupa then chose to cancel his participation in the Nights of Francophonie and the Games.

The latest update is that Ferre Gola will perform on stage at the closing ceremony. However, like Fally Ipupa, he will not take the stage for the Nights of Francophonie, which are taking place at the esplanade of the Palais du Peuple.
