The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Security Corps in Nigeria have announced the arrest of a 38-year-old man, Matthew Ifeanyi, who allegedly attacked his father, Anthony Nnadike, with a machete, resulting in his death.
Ifeanyi reportedly gruesomely killed his father due to his inability to repay the ₦70,000 debt he owed him since July 2022. This was stated in a press release published on Wednesday by the office of the State Commander of So Safe, Soji Ganzallo, and signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Moruf Yusuf.
“On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, information got to Superintendent Alabi Gafar, Divisional Officer of the Corps at the Alade/Atago/Ntabo Divisional Command that at No 11, Ibikunle Street, Diamond Estate, along Olorunda area, Eruobodo Ntabo, Ijoko in Ado-Odo Local Government Area, that a middle-aged man allegedly attacked his biological father with a cutlass,” the statement reads as reported by Ghanaian media.
The statement further details that the Divisional Command’s patrol team was then dispatched to rescue the unfortunate victim and apprehend the son, and upon arrival at the scene, the victim was rushed to the nearest general hospital due to the injuries sustained. His death was subsequently confirmed by the hospital’s attending physician.
During preliminary investigation, Ifeanyi reportedly confessed to murdering his father due to his inability to repay the ₦70,000 debt owed since July 22, 2022. He also admitted that he was forced to commit the act after resigning from his former job to start a business, but his father couldn’t provide him with the money.
The suspect has been transferred to the Sango Divisional Headquarters of the State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.
