A pastor from a Pentecostal church (anonymous name), in the state of Anambra, identified as Reverend Prosper Igboke, has committed suicide by jumping from a two-story building in Nnewi, as reported by Nigerian media.

Sources in the region stated that Igboke jumped from the two-story building and died on the spot after being abandoned by his girlfriend, for whom he had spent a lot. A close friend of the deceased told reporters that the pastor had been in a romantic relationship with his lover for years.

He had even supported her through her entire university education. However, when he proposed to her, she simply declined. This was a huge disappointment for the man of God, who chose to end his life rather than endure this humiliation.

“The incident happened last month. The man (Igboke) was 30 years old at the time of his death. His girlfriend, whom he intended to marry, disappointed him by rejecting his marriage proposal,” the source said, as reported by Punchng. “He jumped from a two-story building and died. I am surprised that a man of that age and especially a pastor could do this,” the source added.

Accused by his own community of committing a “sacrilege” by taking his own life, the pastor, who was from the Leru community in the Umunneochi local government area of Abia State, was buried in a forest without any formal ceremony.
