In Nigeria, the agency responsible for drug legislation and control, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has seized $20 million in counterfeit currency during a enforcement operation. According to the agency, the counterfeit bills were discovered in a bus traveling from Lagos to Abuja.
The NDLEA intercepted $20 million in suspected counterfeit cash in Nigeria. The agency stated that its agents found the stash on Friday during a search and enforcement operation along the Abaji-Lokoja route in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement released on Sunday, Femi Babafemi, the spokesperson for NDLEA, said that the suspected fake dollars were found in a bus coming from Lagos and heading to Abuja, and that the driver of the vehicle was arrested. The agency also seized illicit drugs from a warehouse at the Alaba market in Lagos State.
The warehouse is said to belong to a wanted billionaire drug lord who poses as an auto spare parts dealer. The NDLEA spokesperson stated that the recovered illicit drugs from the warehouse were worth 4,820,500,000 Naira.
