The military government in Niger, led by Brigadier General Abdourahamane Tiani, has announced the creation of the Commission for Combating Economic, Financial, and Tax Delinquency (Coldef) as part of its efforts to combat corruption and bad governance.
On Wednesday evening, the military government in Niger unveiled the creation of the Commission for Combating Economic, Financial, and Tax Delinquency (Coldef) by Brigadier General Abdourahamane Tiani, who currently leads the country. This announcement was made by Colonel-Major Amadou Abdramane, the military spokesperson, on national television.
Coldef’s main mission is to combat corruption, economic, financial, and tax delinquency, as well as to recover all public assets acquired illegally or misappropriated. This initiative is in line with General Tiani’s commitments, including his stated determination to combat corruption, impunity, embezzlement of public funds, and bad governance.
General Tiani had justified the military coup that took place on July 26th by emphasizing the need to put an end to corruption and mismanagement of public affairs. Since the coup, President Bazoum has been held at the presidential palace, and the situation has drawn condemnation from the international community.
