According to information reported by the Franco-Beninese journalist Serge Daniel, the ousted President Mohamed Bazoum has filed a complaint for abduction. He has engaged a Senegalese lawyer who has already approached community courts regarding his abduction.
In a letter addressed to the ECOWAS Court of Justice, the ousted President Mohamed Bazoum has filed a complaint against the junta for “violation of the freedom of movement, arbitrary arrest and detention, violation of political rights, violation of principles of constitutional convergence.” According to the letter addressed to the court based in Abuja, Nigeria, and published on the Twitter page of journalist Serge Daniel, this complaint has been signed by the ousted President Mohamed Bazoum, the former First Lady Mrs. Bazoum Hadiza Mabrouk, and their son Salerm Bazoum.
This complaint has been filed by Mr. Mohamed Seydou Diagne, a lawyer in Dakar and a member of the Senegalese Bar Association. Among the objectives of the complaint is to “enjoin the de facto authorities claiming to be the ‘Head of State of Niger’ or the ‘Government of Niger’ to immediately comply with the respect of the principles of constitutional convergence of the State of Niger, including the restoration of constitutional order and the continuation to its legal conclusion of the democratic mandate that the people of Niger have sovereignly entrusted to President Mohamed Bazoum, the victim of the state coup.”
