On Monday, July 31, 2023, a few days after the coup d’état in Niger, the coup leaders have arrested Foumakoye Gado, a close associate of President Mohamed Bazoum.
After ousting the Nigerien president, the armed forces are carrying out a series of arrests, as is customary after a regime change. According to our colleagues at Afrique sur 7, on Monday, the principal representative of Mohamed Bazoum was apprehended.
Foumakoye Gado is a astute and respected politician in the Nigerien political sphere. He is among the long list of personalities and dignitaries from the regime that have been dismantled by the coup leaders. Despite the lack of official communication from the coup leaders regarding these arrests, it is important to note that the junta has arrested about ten individuals.
As a reminder, since December 2022, Foumakoye Gado has been a member of the National Executive Committee of the Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism (PNDS Tarraya), which is in power. He is one of the closest collaborators and is dedicated to the successor of Mahamadou Issoufou.
