The Union for a New Benin (UDBN) has commented on the crisis in Niger that has shaken the neighboring country. This Beninese political party, led by Claudine Prudencio, expresses deep concern about the political and security situation prevailing in Niger. The UDBN firmly opposes the seizure of power by force, as it occurred on July 26th, and calls for a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
In an official statement dated September 11, 2023, the UDBN emphasizes the importance of political stability and democracy in the West African sub-region. The party condemns any form of coup d’état and insists on the need to ensure respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms of Nigerien citizens.
Furthermore, the UDBN calls for the unconditional and immediate lifting of economic sanctions imposed on Niger, which directly impact the population and hinder its socio-economic development. The party encourages regional and international actors to facilitate inclusive and constructive dialogue among different stakeholders, with the aim of finding a peaceful and sustainable solution to the crisis.
The Union for a New Benin stands for democracy, political stability, and respect for human rights in the West African region. It urges all relevant stakeholders to work together to achieve a peaceful solution.
Regarding the military option considered for the release of Mohamed Bazoum and his reinstatement as President of Niger, the UDBN calls on ECOWAS to exercise patience. It invites leaders of member countries to “not rush and take into account the inevitable dramatic consequences of military intervention in Niger before deciding to definitively abandon this option.”
Preventing Crises… Furthermore, the UDBN advocates for prevention in the management of crises affecting African countries. It encourages leaders at various levels to work in anticipation by establishing prevention mechanisms.
