A few hours after taking power, the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Republic (CNSR) accused France on Thursday morning, July 27, of violating the closure of the borders after a military plane landed in Niamey.

According to a statement read on Niger’s public television by Colonel Major Amadou Abdourahmane, the leader of the mutinous group now calling itself the “National Council for the Safeguarding of the Republic” (CNSR), France violated the closure of the air and land borders announced after the takeover. “Despite the provisions of communiqué No. 3 regarding the closure of air and land borders, it has been observed that the French partner disregarded this by landing a military plane of type A-401 at Niamey International Airport this morning at 6:30,” the statement from the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Republic (CNSR) read on public television stated.
