“In Niger, the army has finally seized power and established the ‘CNSP’ – the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland, according to a televised declaration.
President Mohamed Bazoum has been deposed. This is the key takeaway from the declaration made on July 26, 2023, by the military. The coup leaders have taken control and dissolved the institutions of the 7th republic. Borders have been closed, and a curfew has been imposed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
It should be noted that Mohamed Bazoum is still being held by the presidential guard. In their declaration read on national television, the military has suspended the constitution and implemented a curfew.
