Alone at the top of the Beninese school football scene, Sainte Rita Middle School swept the board at the 3rd edition of the National School Championship. The school secured the Gold medal in both girls’ and boys’ football.
The 3rd edition of the National School Championship came to a close on Sunday, August 20, 2023, in Abomey. This significant event crowned the female and male teams from Sainte Rita Middle School in Cotonou, who secured the Gold medal in the football discipline.
In the girls’ football category, the players from Sainte Rita Middle School triumphed in the final against their counterparts from CEG 1 Bantè, with a final score of 3 goals to 0. On the boys’ side, Sainte Rita Middle School emerged victorious in a fierce showdown against CEG 2 Azovè (1-0).
The final of the boys’ handball saw CEG Tanguiéta dominate against Lycée Béhanzin from Porto-Novo (37 to 30). The Northern team therefore secured the top spot in Benin for this discipline. In girls’ basketball, CEG 1 Bohicon swept past CEG 1 Comè (59 to 30).
Athletics also took center stage with impressive performances. Moudjaïdou Yorou (LTP Kandi) triumphed in the 400 meters event, while the men’s long jump was dominated by Gladstone Lawissa (CEG Adrien Degbey) with a distance of 5.97 meters.
Romaine Gandonou (Ouémé) claimed the title in the 800 meters women’s race with a time of 2 minutes and 25.8 seconds, while Modeste N’Tcha (CEG Yimporima) emerged victorious in the men’s 800 meters race with a time of 2 minutes and 6.4 seconds.
This edition of the school championship was marked by the determination and talent of young athletes, highlighting the promising future of sports in the country. The efforts and performances of these young talents undoubtedly deserve the applause and admiration of all.
