Author of a brace against Frosinone (3-1) this weekend, in Napoli’s first Serie A match of the season, Victor Osimhen has spoken about his future at Napoli.
Despite offers from several clubs, both in Saudi Arabia and Europe, Victor Osimhen will stay in Italy. The Nigerian forward has decided to continue his journey with Napoli, where he is under contract until 2025. The 24-year-old player has even recently agreed to extend his contract until 2026 with the reigning Italian champions, according to local press. For now, the Nigerian striker remains a Napoli player. He demonstrated this over the weekend with a brace during his team’s victory over Frosinone (3-1) on the opening day of Serie A.
“It was important to start well, congratulations to the team,” Victor Osimhen said in the mixed zone to DAZN, as reported by Football Italia. “The opponents made it tough for us, they are a good team. We have a great team, and I am happy about this victory. I am happy to have scored two goals, we need to keep up this momentum,” the Nigerian international continued.
“We are still negotiating [a new contract]” Asked about the recent rumors regarding his contract extension with Gli Azzurri, the Super Eagles forward assured that nothing has been finalized yet. “There was a lot of speculation, which is true. The president is the boss. We are still negotiating [a new contract], we will see at the end of the transfer window. For now, I am a Napoli player, which is the most important thing. I will give my heart and soul to this team as I have always done in the past. We will see what happens,” added Victor Osimhen.
The Nigerian also responded to his coach Rudi Garcia’s comparison of him to Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo: “What can I say? It is important for the coach to believe in me, and it is also important to repay that trust on the field. Everyone is a leader; we have to take responsibility. We have Di Lorenzo, the captain, Mario Rui, Meret. As I said, we are a group. We want to keep improving.”
