Additionally, 153 injured individuals have been confirmed. They are hospitalized and receiving necessary medical care, the Ministry of the Interior stated.
The magnitude 7 earthquake occurred at 23:11 local time on Friday (UTC+1), according to the National Institute of Geophysics of Morocco. Its epicenter was located near Ighil in the province of Al-Haouz, and its focus was at a depth of 8 km.
The previous powerful earthquake in Morocco occurred on February 24, 2004, in the province of Al Hoceïma (northern Morocco). Its magnitude was 6.3 on the Richter scale, and it resulted in the deaths of 628 people.
