The death toll from the earthquake in Morocco has risen to 1,037. According to the latest data released by the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior, 1,204 people have been injured, with 721 in critical condition.
A magnitude 6.9 earthquake was recorded in Morocco on Friday evening, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (CSEM). The epicenter of the tremors was located 77 km southwest of Marrakech, a city with a population of 839,000, at a depth of 10 km.
On Saturday, the Occitanie, Paca, and Corsica regions issued a joint statement announcing assistance to Morocco, which was hit by a devastating earthquake. One million euros will be directly allocated, as per the needs expressed by the kingdom, to aid the victims of the natural disaster and for the country’s reconstruction, as reported by Midi Libre newspaper.
Condolences Early this morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a telegram of condolences to King Mohammed VI of Morocco following the earthquake, which resulted in hundreds of deaths and injuries. The telegram text was published on the Kremlin’s website.
“Please accept my sincere condolences due to the tragic consequences of the devastating earthquake in the central regions of your country. Russia shares the concerns and pain of the friendly people of Morocco. Please convey words of sympathy and support to the families and loved ones of the victims, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to all those affected by this natural disaster,” the telegram reads.
As for France, it has expressed its readiness to provide assistance to Morocco, where a strong earthquake occurred on Friday evening. French President Emmanuel Macron stated on the X social network (formerly Twitter), “We are all deeply moved by the terrible earthquake in Morocco. France stands ready to assist with the initial relief efforts.”
Israeli army rescuers have been ordered to prepare for emergency assistance to Morocco, according to the Israeli Ministry of Defense’s press service.
“We extend our condolences to the Moroccan people and government, our friends and brothers, and wish God’s mercy to those who have died and a speedy recovery to the injured. Turkey, as always, is ready to provide all possible support to heal the wounds,” the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan also expressed his condolences following this natural disaster.
