During a press conference on Thursday, to unveil Morocco’s squad for the September break, coach Walid Regragui discussed the situation concerning Lamine Yamal. The Moroccan coach is quite pessimistic about the possibility of FC Barcelona’s winger joining the Atlas Lions.
Lamine Yamal, a promising talent from FC Barcelona at just 16 years old, is being courted by both the Spanish and Moroccan national teams. While Spanish media outlets are reporting the imminent call-up of the player by La Roja, the coach of the Moroccan national team, Walid Regragui, expressed his reservations about Morocco’s prospects in this situation. In fact, the young prodigy has not been summoned for the upcoming Moroccan gathering.
“Lamine Yamal has just turned 16. Today, he has an important choice to make, but it’s a personal choice that we must respect. We’ve been working on this for a long time. We’ve done everything for him to come. Spain’s scout has been following him since he was 10 years old. Today, I don’t have the assurances to tell you that he’s coming. We’ll see if tomorrow he will be in Spain’s list. We’ve done our job; we can’t force him to choose his country, but it’s difficult because he’s only 16. We’ll see in the coming weeks what will happen,” Regragui stated during the press conference on Thursday, as reported by Footmercato.
At a crossroads in his young career, Lamine Yamal, who has already progressed from the U15 to U19 selections with Spain, seems most likely to be headed towards the senior team of La Roja.
