Following alleged “unfriendly actions and attempts at destabilization” orchestrated by Russia, Moldova announces the departure of forty-five employees of the Russian embassy from its territory by August 15.
Moldova has taken a significant decision by reducing Russian diplomatic activity on its territory, with the departure of forty-five individuals working for the Russian embassy in the capital, Chisinau, by August 15. The Moldovan government justified this measure in response to what it considers “numerous unfriendly actions” from Russia towards their country, as well as attempts at destabilization.
This announcement comes shortly after media reports of surveillance conducted by Russian secret service agents, suggesting that the Russian embassy may have played a central role in these activities. Moldovan President Maia Sandu has publicly denounced alleged interference and coup attempts, which she attributes to the Kremlin.
The Moldovan decision has elicited a response from the Kremlin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, who expressed regret while accusing the Moldovan authorities of deliberately pushing relations with Moscow into a “deplorable state.” He described this move as “unfriendly policy” and promised a response from Moscow.
