Highly anticipated regarding the situation, the Nigerien presidency has just issued a statement, warning the elements of the presidential guard involved in the unrest that has persisted since Wednesday morning.
“Early this Wednesday morning, elements of the presidential guard (PG) engaged in an anti-republican unrest and unsuccessfully attempted to gain the support of the National Armed Forces and the National Guard,” announced the Nigerien presidency in its statement on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.
“The President of the Republic and his family are safe,” continued the Nigerien presidency, which openly threatened the presidential guard: “The Army and the National Guard are ready to take action against the elements of the presidential guard involved in this unrest if they do not return to a better state of mind.”
This reaction is the first from the Nigerien authorities since the start of the events on Wednesday.
