The Miss Cameroon competition is broadening its horizons in 2024, opening its doors to young women from conservative Muslim backgrounds and confirming the participation of candidate mothers up to 30 years old.
Thus, the organizing committee of Miss Cameroon has announced a series of progressive reforms for this year’s edition. With the aim of including a diversity of participants, the organizers have decided to allow Muslim women, who adhere to Islamic teachings, to take part in the contest while maintaining attire that is consistent with their religious beliefs.
The official communication, released through the organization’s Facebook page, states that these new measures seek to promote wider and respectful representation of Cameroon’s cultural and religious diversity, thus allowing each contestant to compete without compromising their principles.
“Muslim candidates have the option of not parading in swimsuits and may wear the veil during the presentations.“
It is important to recall that this year’s theme of the beauty competition is “Combating violence against women/girls.“
