According to information from The Guardian, Benjamin Mendy has reportedly demanded his unpaid wages from his former club, Manchester City, since September 2021. The player is facing tax debts in England.
A few weeks ago, Benjamin Mendy was found not guilty of the latest accusations of rape and attempted rape that were still pending against him by the Chester jury after a lengthy legal battle that began in 2021. The player even signed with Lorient in Ligue 1 shortly after, thus revitalizing his career and closing his English chapter. However, the French defender still needs to resolve a delicate financial matter in England.
Indeed, according to The Guardian, the British tax authorities have initiated bankruptcy proceedings against the 29-year-old footballer for an amount of £800,000 (over €920,000). To address this tax debt, the 2018 World Cup champion has reportedly entered negotiations with his former club, Manchester City, regarding unpaid earnings. The unpaid wages since September 2021 are estimated to be around €11.5 million, according to statements made by his accountant during the hearing.
The British tabloid adds that Benjamin Mendy has also decided to put his house up for sale, located in the prestigious Cheshire area and valued at €5.7 million, in order to meet his financial obligations to the British tax authorities. Mendy, although acquitted of the charges of rape, attempted rape, and assault against him, now has to navigate through turbulent financial waters. The pressure is significant, but the player seems determined to overcome these obstacles to definitively close this chapter of his life.
