In a press conference this Friday, Pep Guardiola confirmed the imminent arrival of young central defender Josko Gvardiol from Leipzig to Manchester City.
Manchester City is set to welcome a significant defensive reinforcement. While rumors have been circulating for several days about the arrival of young Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol to the reigning European champions, the transfer was confirmed by Pep Guardiola in a press conference on Friday. The highly regarded pillar of Leipzig, hailing from Croatia, has reached an agreement with the Cityzens, and all that remains is to finalize a comprehensive deal between the two teams.
“Gvardiol, what a beautiful surname he carries (editor’s note: he is also nicknamed Pep)! He is undergoing a medical examination. Everyone knows he is here. Hopefully, we can conclude the deal in the coming hours or days,” explained the Spanish coach, as reported by Footmercato. Manchester City is expected to spend 80 million to acquire the Croatian player.
Born in Zagreb, Croatia, Joško Gvardiol was developed by the country’s biggest club, Dinamo Zagreb. He is considered one of the most promising players of his generation. He became a Croatian champion in 2020 when the club was officially crowned for the 21st time after the 30th round. He signed a five-year contract with RB Leipzig in 2021. With his impending transfer to Manchester City, the young central defender is taking another step in his career.
