After being sentenced to 2 years in prison, with one year suspended, Adama Diarra, also known as Ben le Cerveau, has been removed from his position within the National Transitional Council (CNT), the legislative body of the transition in Mali.

This marks the second sanction for activist Adama Diarra, alias Ben le Cerveau. In a decree signed by Colonel Assimi GOITA and made public on September 15, 2023, Adama Ben Diarra, the leader of the pro-junta movement Yerewolo – Debout sur les remparts, was excluded from the National Transitional Council, which replaced the National Assembly.

Indeed, through this decree, Colonel Assimi Goïta revoked the provisions of decree no. 2020-239/PT-RM of December 3, 2020, concerning Adama Ben Diarra. In other words, his position as a deputy in the National Transitional Council (CNT) has been revoked. As the leader of the Yerowolo Movement, Ben le Cerveau was at the forefront of protests demanding the withdrawal of foreign forces from Malian soil, including Barkhane and MINUSMA.

The transitional authorities had set February 4, 2024, as the date for the presidential election, March 19, 2023, for the constitutional referendum, and October 29, 2023, for the legislative elections. On Sunday, September 3, “Ben le Cerveau” had called for respect for the electoral schedule that would mark the return to constitutional order in Mali. This led to his arrest and subsequent detention.
