On Sunday, Liverpool achieved a stunning victory (2-1) on the field of Newcastle during the third round of the Premier League. After the match, the coach of the Reds, Jürgen Klopp, revealed that he had never experienced anything like it in his career.
During the third round of the Premier League, Liverpool visited St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon to play against Newcastle. Despite being reduced to ten men for over an hour of the game, the Merseyside club managed to secure three points by defeating the Magpies with a score of 2-1. This was made possible by a brace from Darwin Núñez, who came on as a substitute. Ecstatic after the match, the coach of the Reds admitted that it was the most beautiful success of his coaching career.
“Absolutely. In 1,000 matches as a coach, I’ve never experienced a match like this. With ten men, in such an atmosphere, against such an opponent, I’m almost sure it has never happened. These moments are rare and very special,” exclaimed the German technician during the press conference, as reported by RMC Sport.
As a reminder, Jürgen Klopp had still managed to win the Champions League with Liverpool in June 2019, including a legendary comeback against Barcelona in the semi-finals – Liverpool had overturned a 3-0 deficit from the first leg. But evidently, that wasn’t as sensational as this comeback against Newcastle. “I told the players at halftime that it was something we could tell our grandchildren. I’ll see mine in ten days and I’ll tell them,” Klopp added, with stars still in his eyes.
