A statement has been released by the Ministry of National Education and Literacy in collaboration with its Directorate of Schools, High Schools, and Colleges (DELC), highlighting the required ages for enrolling children in preschool and primary school in Ivory Coast.
According to the statement, “As part of the 2023-2024 school year, I would like to inform you that registrations for preschool and CP1 will take place from Monday, September 4th to Friday, September 8th, 2023, inclusive, from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Registrations for preschool concern children aged 3 to 5 years for schools with nursery, middle, and upper sections, children aged 4 and 5 years for schools with 2 classes and Community Preschool Centers (CPC), and only children aged 5 years for unique upper section classes or pre-primary classes attached to primary schools.
For CP1 (first grade), registrations involve children aged 6 to 9 years, with priority given to 6-year-old children. I would like to remind everyone that public registrations are free and are done upon presentation of a birth document.” the statement reads.
It should be noted that these required ages for these levels of education are not arbitrary, as they are based on child psychology and psychomotor development.
