In a published statement, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Ivory Coast (ARTCI) has advised the Ivorian population to be cautious of new forms of online loans through mobile applications such as “Easy Cash,” “Côte d’Ivoire Money,” “Quick Loan,” and others.
Indeed, the telecommunications regulator in Ivory Coast has warned that the use of these applications carries risks and threats to personal data and individuals’ privacy. Furthermore, ARTCI stated that these applications, which gather personal information, have not received authorization to process such data.
Within a period of 10 days from the issuance of this statement, the Authority for Data Protection recommended that the companies holding these online loan applications contact their relevant services to comply with Law No. 2013-450 of June 19, 2013, concerning the protection of personal data.
