Several independent candidates from its ranks have been sanctioned by the African Peoples Party-Ivory Coast (PPA-CI), a political party led by former Ivorian president Laurent Gbagbo, for the upcoming local elections in Ivory Coast.

According to a party information note published, the disciplinary council of the PPA-CI has decided to immediately suspend all activities of the African Peoples Party-Ivory Coast and prohibit the use of the emblem, colors, logo, and image of the president of the PPA-CI, “comrade Laurent Gbagbo.”

Among these individuals, we can mention Sohou Richard, an independent candidate for the mayorship of Kouibly, Beke Julius Olivier, an independent candidate for the mayorship of Attécoubé, Veglano Kouamé Ezechiel for the mayorship of Bingerville, Gore Bi Goly Simplice for the mayorship of Bonon, Mobio Amon for the mayorship of Alépé, Goure Bi Benié Jérôme for the mayorship of Gohitafla, and Sokouri Armel Kevin for the mayorship of Ouragahio.

“These individuals were accused before the disciplinary council of not respecting the party’s decisions, of defiance and insubordination to hierarchical authority, by comrade secretary general of the PPA-CI Damana Adia Pickass, following their stubbornness to run as independent candidates in the upcoming local elections,” states Laurent Gbagbo’s party.

In Ivory Coast, municipal and regional elections are scheduled to take place on September 2nd.
