On Thursday, August 17, 2023, the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI), responsible for organizing elections in Ivory Coast, reported attempts at electoral propaganda in certain areas and on social media platforms prior to the official opening of the campaign for the combined municipal and regional elections.

“The Independent Electoral Commission denounces these acts of incivility and reminds that, in accordance with the provisions of Article 28 of the electoral code, the opening and closing dates of the electoral campaign are determined by decree issued in the Council of Ministers upon the CEI’s proposal,” states a statement sent to BÉNIN WEB TV.

Furthermore, the CEI informed candidates that it is strictly prohibited to disseminate electoral propaganda outside of the prescribed period, in accordance with Articles 31 and 32 of the electoral code, and such actions can lead to sanctions. “Any violator of the current regulations is consequently exposed to having their candidacy invalidated,” warns the spokesperson of the CEI.
