The Judicial Police Officers of the High Authority for Good Governance (HABG) conducted an investigation into nine public officials, including four nurses, based on the denunciations received through the platform for reporting acts of corruption and related offenses called SIGNALIS.
Henri Augustin Aka, the Secretary-General of HABG, presented the results of the investigation during a press conference held on Friday, July 28, 2023, at the institution’s headquarters in Abidjan-Cocody. He stated that six public officials, including four male nurses, one female nurse, and one driver, were apprehended in flagrante delicto on Monday, July 24, 2023. Additionally, he explained that these agents were found in possession of a total amount of 654,000 FCFA, along with documents confirming the existence of dual accounting for vaccination revenues and false daily activity reports.
Furthermore, he disclosed that a search conducted at the home of one nurse on July 24, 2023, revealed the discovery of 21,407 syringes, 701 vaccination products, and around a hundred empty vaccine vials stored under inadequate conditions. After their interrogations, three other public health agents were apprehended, including one male nurse and one female nurse on Wednesday, July 26, and one doctor on Thursday, July 27.
According to the Secretary-General of HABG, once the investigation is completed, the accused will be presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Economic and Financial Criminal Court, in accordance with the report from the Investigation and Prosecution Department of HABG, for further legal proceedings.
