In the new list of street names in the Abidjan District, we find “Didier Drogba Avenue” in Bingerville and “Arafat Dj Avenue” in Cocody, two celebrities who have left a mark on the people.
As part of its street addressing policy in the Abidjan District, the government has decided to honor public figures who have had a positive impact on Ivory Coast. Two well-known names to Ivorian populations and even beyond have been included in this initiative. Specifically, Didier Drogba has been a symbol of Ivorian football, while Dj Arafat was a legend in the Coupé-décalé music genre in Ivory Coast. “Didier Drogba Avenue” is located in the SCI Carrière neighborhood of Bingerville, and “Arafat DJ Avenue” is in Cocody, specifically in the 7th Tranche, where the motorcycle accident that took the king of Coupé-décalé’s life occurred.
The Ivorian Minister of Construction, Housing, and Urban Development, Bruno Koné, expressed his gratitude to these two famous sons of the country who have represented Ivory Coast in their respective fields. Didier Drogba gained global recognition for his football talent during his time as a striker at Chelsea in England and with the Ivory Coast national team.
As for Arafat DJ, he contributed to the international fame of the Coupé-décalé music genre. The Arafat DJ Forever Foundation also expressed its gratitude to the State of Ivory Coast for this recognition of the “Daishikan.” The naming of a street after Arafat DJ is praised by all his fans, affectionately known as “Chinois” (Chinese), just a few weeks before the commemoration of the fourth anniversary of the artist’s passing, which will take place on August 12th.
