A week after the sudden death of former President of Ivory Coast, Henri Konan Bédié, retired General Gaston Ouassenan Koné was called to rest at the age of 84. According to consistent reports, he passed away in Abidjan on Tuesday, August 8. The reasons for his death are currently unknown.

Born on April 24, 1939, in Katiola in central-northern Ivory Coast, Gaston Ouassenan Koné was a retired general who carried the Ivorian flag during the country’s independence in 1960. Additionally, he held positions as a parliamentarian and president of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party of Ivory Coast (PDCI) during several ministerial terms in Ivory Coast.

In 2020, Ouassenan Koné held the position of vice president within the PDCI. He was part of the delegation that accompanied the party’s president, Henri Konan Bédié, during his meeting with President Ouattara, aimed at resolving the electoral crisis caused by President Alassane Ouattara’s candidacy, which was considered unconstitutional by the majority of opposition parties.
