Following a joke about the 49 Ivorian soldiers who were briefly detained in Mali by the transitional authorities, Zouglou singer A’Salfo has incited the ire of netizens.
Participating with great enthusiasm in the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), Salif Traoré, better known by his stage name A’Salfo, was very entertaining on his Facebook page, seeking to lift spirits with his humorous posts. Unfortunately, some of his messages were misinterpreted by certain individuals.
After the Mali national team secured their place in the quarterfinals by defeating Burkina Faso on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo, the excitement builds for their next match. The Eagles of Mali will face the Elephants of Ivory Coast on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Peace Stadium in Bouaké. While anticipation mounts, another post from A’Salfo once again stirred up some controversy. “It’s just as well! We (Ivory Coast) have not forgotten the story of the 49 soldiers,” he wrote.
Regrettably, the celebrity’s post was not well-received by his fans. It appears that the content offended some people, who now express concern about possible reprisals targeting Malian citizens should their team win against Ivory Coast.
Quick to understand that the joke was not appreciated, the famous Anoumabo native promptly removed his message from social media. However, screenshots had already been taken, and they continue to circulate online, often accompanied by critical comments.
It is worth noting that, following Ivory Coast’s defeat to Nigeria, he had posted a humorous message in which he threatened to remove Nigerian singer Yemi Alade’s lyrics from their collaborative song “Akwaba.”
