In Ivory Coast, specialists are preparing for a new epidemic wave in a few weeks due to the presence of a new variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, called “Eris.”
According to the Linfodrome news outlet, the National Program for the Fight Against Metabolic Diseases (PNLMM) convened to discuss how to combat a potential new epidemic wave due to the emergence of a new variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, named “Eris,” while the dengue fever epidemic is currently affecting the country.
Dr. ADOUENI Katché Valéry from the National Program for the Fight Against Metabolic Diseases (PNLMM) gathered in an office in Jacqueville to prepare for a possible new epidemic in the coming weeks due to the emergence of a new variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus called “Eris.” Additionally, the purpose of this meeting was to provide information for the target populations of the PNLMM, particularly diabetics and hypertensive individuals.
The professionals of PNLMM are facing a significant challenge: to develop a comprehensive, effective, and sustainable communication strategy to increase vaccination coverage among chronic patients and their families while enabling the reappropriation of preventive measures and actions. Lastly, to prepare medical and paramedical personnel at all levels to enhance their interventions in order to provide proper care for the patients.
Furthermore, the Social Strategies Support Program (PASS) was invited to this Workshop to present its pilot project titled “Strengthening Community Involvement in the Fight Against Non-Communicable Diseases (RICOM-MNT).” Dr. Jean ETTE, Director of Public Health and Sustainable Development, expressed interest in the innovative activities that will be developed to address NCDs.
As a reminder, on Thursday, June 15, 2023, the Director General of PASS and its partner, the NOVARTIS group, launched the project for Strengthening Community Involvement in the Fight Against Non-Communicable Diseases (RICOM-MNT) at the Abobo-Béci community health center, in the presence of the National Confederation of Community-Based Healthcare Facilities in Ivory Coast (CNAESCOM-CI), community leaders, and women’s associations.
