On Wednesday, July 26, around 3 am, Mr. K.J was apprehended by the security forces after attempting to set fire to a vehicle belonging to Mr. T.K in the Lycée neighborhood of Bondoukou.

Local youth from the neighborhood, alerted by the smoke from the vehicle, intervened quickly in coordination with the Emergency Rescue Center (CSU) of Bondoukou to extinguish the fire around 1:30 am. The joint patrol of the Lycée sector, comprising the police, gendarmerie, and the Armed Forces of Ivory Coast (FACI), was informed by the residents. They provided a description of the suspect to the patrol team. To find the individual, a search, assisted by young volunteers, was organized.

Furthermore, investigations led to the location of K.J around 3 am, who admitted to the act. The neighborhood youths had spotted him wearing a hood and pretending to be mentally disturbed. According to the authorities of the joint patrol, the partially burnt vehicle had been immobilized for six months and parked in a rear area behind the new station of Bondoukou.

Prior to this arrest, four other suspected individuals had been apprehended by the police forces of Bondoukou and were brought before the court last week as part of an ongoing investigation into the vehicles that were set on fire in the area since July 7. Due to the recurrence of these incidents, on July 18, the prefect of Bondoukou, Andjou Koua, called on the residents to collaborate with the defense and security forces (FDS) to put an end to this situation.
