In a bustling square in the Iraqi capital, explicit scenes were briefly displayed on a billboard, prompting authorities to shut down all city billboards. The perpetrator behind this hack was an employee of the company responsible for managing these billboards, embroiled in financial disputes with their management.
On Saturday evening, “an individual managed to hack a billboard in Uqba ben Nafia Square,” a major intersection in the center of the Iraqi capital, recounted an anonymous security source to AFP. The hacker “showed a pornographic film for several minutes before we disconnected the power cable.”
Videos circulating on social media show the billboard displaying explicit content while vehicles continue to pass by. These “immoral scenes” prompted authorities to “shut down all advertising billboards in Baghdad” while reviewing security measures, explained the security official. The Ministry of Interior also announced in a statement that a suspect had been arrested, without specifying their motivations.
According to the BBC, the suspect is reportedly a technician who had financial disputes with the company managing the billboards. Allegedly, he acted in retaliation.
