The African Peoples Party – Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI) has issued a statement to deny its involvement in a widely circulated document on social media that addresses the situation in the Republic of Senegal with opposition leader Ousmane Sonko, as well as the situation in the Republic of Niger.
On Sunday, the party of Ivorian opposition leader Laurent Gbagbo provided details of its position in response to a controversial communiqué that had been circulating on social media for a few days, attributed to an African organization claiming to represent 36 entities from 17 different countries.
This document, issued by the President of the Neo-Panafrican Sovereignty Organization (ONS), addresses the political situation in Senegal by expressing support for Ousmane Sonko, the opposition leader who was charged and detained on July 31. It also touches on the issue in Niger, where ECOWAS is considering a possible military intervention in the event of a restoration of power in accordance with the constitutional order.
Denial from Laurent Gbagbo’s party The statement at the bottom of the page indicates that PPA-CI is a signatory member of ONS with global representations. In response to this accusation, the party contests it and affirms that it has never signed such a document nor instructed anyone to do so.
Furthermore, Justin Koné Katinan stated that his party was not aware of the existence of this organization and did not authorize anyone to act on its behalf.
“While it is true that the political and security situations in Senegal and Niger are of great concern to us, we want to clarify that PPA-CI is not involved with this organization, of which it is unaware of its existence,” he concluded.
