In an interview with the Lorient FC website, Tosin Aiyegun expressed his thoughts on his transfer to the Merlus. The Beninese striker said he is proud to join the French league.
After spells in Latvia and Switzerland, Tosin Aiyegun will now experience French football. The Beninese forward has signed with Lorient FC in Ligue 1. The Cheetah has penned a four-year contract with the Merlus, coming from FC Zurich. The new Lorient recruit is very proud of this transfer and opened up about it on the club’s website.
“I am very happy. I was warmly welcomed by the group. I already have the feeling of having joined a big family. I know I will feel good in Lorient, and that’s the most important thing when you sign with a new club,” said the Beninese goal-scorer.
At the age of 25 and born in Lagos, he is eager to prove himself in Ligue 1, a league he has always dreamed of playing in. “I have always had this dream of playing in Ligue 1. Today, I have the opportunity to join a great French club, and I am proud of it. It’s an accomplishment for me. The French championship is one of the top five leagues in the world. I know the level will be high, but it’s up to me to work hard and rise to this challenge,” he added.
Capable of playing in attack as well as in a supporting role behind the striker, the Beninese player will now try to establish good understanding with his teammates to be as decisive as possible. FC Lorient starts the next season with an away match at the Parc des Princes on Saturday, August 12, at 9 p.m. to face PSG. But before that, the Merlus will continue to sharpen their skills, with friendly matches against Nantes and Bournemouth on August 2 and 5, respectively.
