Marie-Claire Rupio, the widow of the late Christian Atsu, explained that the former Ghanaian international possessed not only exceptional talent but also a truly compassionate nature.

Atsu’s remarkable philanthropic efforts and numerous acts of kindness have left an indelible mark on countless lives, bringing about positive transformations during his journey from West Africa to Western Europe and ultimately to the Middle East.

Among his charitable initiatives was his support for an orphanage named Becky’s Foundation. He played a central role in transforming a children’s home in the Ghanaian coastal town of Senya Beraku into a functional school. His commitment went beyond financial assistance, as he frequently visited orphanages, earning the affectionate title of “father” from some of the children.

During the repatriation of his remains to Ghana, the nation observed a traditional week-long mourning period. Atsu was further honored with a state funeral in the capital city, Accra, attended by hundreds of people, including the President of Ghana, who came to bid their final farewells.

“He helped a lot of charities, even in the UK,” his widow stated in an interview with the Ghanaian press. “He helped a lot of people in Ghana. You can’t really talk only about [his] talent, he was also a good person.”

“People who are close know that, even from the outside, they saw it. He built a school for children in Ghana, and that’s something not everyone would do if they had money,” added Marie-Claire Rupio. Atsu’s philanthropic actions extended beyond borders, reflecting his commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.
